Glowy effect measurement with the C-Cube

Radiance measurement

Radiance refers to the skin’s ability to reflect light and is a central criterion in the glowy effect of an active ingredient.

The C-Cube features patented indirect illumination and a color calibration process. Thanks to this technology, we have developed a Radiance Index (%) based on brightness, overall homogeneity and redness. These three data combine to assess the skin’s radiant appearance.

Dryness and Desquamation

One of the obstacles to achieving a glowy effect is flaking, which is the accumulation of dead cells on the surface of the skin. The C-Cube is able to measure this parameter ex-vivo and in-vivo, thus making it possible to detect the reduction in desquamation after the application of a treatment.

In in-vivo, the C-Cube uses its color calibration to exploit the L* component and locate the whitest (or brightest) pixels in the image. The latter correspond to the scales detected. The white surface of the image compared to the full surface corresponds to the desquamation index.

In ex-vivo, it is sufficient to collect the scales using patches (D-squame®, Corneofix®) and analyze them with the Pixience sampling reader. This analysis also gives a desquamation index and divides the scales into 5 categories according to their thickness.

Sebum and oily skin

Excess sebum can cause the skin to look oily and not luminous. It is necessary to have a balance between hydration and sebum regulation to obtain a radiant complexion.

Sebutape® or Sebufix® patches are used to remove sebum from the surface of the skin in a standardized way. Simply place them with the sample reader and analyze them with the C-Cube. You get a sebum index and a classification into 5 categories according to the size of the sebum spots.
